Chengfeng Cogen Marks 20th Anniversary with Green Milestone: Biomass Co-firing Project Officially Commissioned

On June 17, 2025, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic relations, Shijiazhuang Chengfeng Cogen Co., Ltd. ("Chengfeng Cogen") celebrated its 20th anniversary under Banpu's investment and held the commencement ceremony for its biomass co-firing project. His Excellency H.E. Mr. Chatchai Viriyavejakul, Ambassador of Thailand to China, Mr. Issara Niropas, CEO of Banpu Power, Mr. Pilun Pochanart, Country Head of Banpu China, and other senior executives attended the event, witnessing this milestone moment.

As Banpu’s first step in China’s power sector, Chengfeng Cogen has made remarkable contributions to local economic development and livelihood with stable and efficient energy supply over the past two decades, earning high recognition from government and residents. Building on this foundation, the company has continuously driven green transformation through innovation, committing to sustainable development of both the enterprise and the community.

The newly commissioned biomass co-firing project holds profound significance: It is not only Banpu’s first green transformation initiative at a conventional coal-fired power plant, but also the first coal-fired power plant in Hebei Province to achieve a whole-plant biomass co-firing ratio of 10% for carbon reduction. By converting agricultural and forestry waste into biomass fuel for co-firing with coal, the project generates clean electricity and heat, while addressing waste disposal challenges, reducing environmental pollution, lowering fuel costs, and delivering substantial carbon reduction benefits.

H.E. Mr. Chatchai Viriyavejakul congratulated BPP and Chengfeng Cogen on reaching this significant milestone, he stated: " We are proud to witness Banpu’s contribution to energy security, as well as growth and development for this local community and surrounding areas. The biomass co-firing project also stands as a concrete example of efforts towards green transformation, fully aligned with the Chinese Government’s aspiration to pursue high-quality and sustainable development.
