BIC launches River Beach Clean-up Campaign

On April 19, when the World Earth Day was approaching, BIC and Beijing Watcher Environmental Protection Foundation jointly organized the "BIC River Beach Clean-up Campaign". More than 40 employees from the Beijing office came to the beautiful Wenyu River beach to pick up litter and protect the river ecology with actions.

In his opening speech, Mr. Pilun Pochanart, Head of Banpu China said: “The theme of the World Earth Day 2024 is Planet vs Plastics, currently, plastic waste pollution has become a global environmental problem, and the problem of plastic pollution in urban rivers is even serious. ” Through this activity, he hoped to help employees raise environmental awareness and practice Banpu’s ESG philosophy as well as the ‘Greener & Smarter’ strategy.

Before the river beach cleaning started, through wonderful illustration and interesting interactivities, the lecturer of Beijing Watcher Environmental Protection Foundation made employees understand the history and current situation of Wenyu River, as well as the harm of plastic waste pollution.

On the beautiful river beach, a variety of garbage were hiding in the green grass and blooming flowers, employees, divided into four groups, collaborated with each other, carefully checked the river bank and collected the cigarette butts, bottle caps, waste plastic bags and other garbage in the grass and made records, joining hands to create a clean beach free of garbage.

At the end of the two-hour beach cleaning activity, the employees were still being immersed. After weighing, a total of 28kg of rubbish were cleared. The beach cleaning volunteer activity not only improved the Wenyu River environment, but also made the staff understand more about the harm of plastic rubbish, the importance of water resources, and enhanced their awareness of environmental protection, many of the staff promised to protect the ecological environment starting from themselves and small things in daily life in the future.

This beach cleaning activity is a valuable practice of the Banpu's ESG philosophy, it also demonstrates BIC's high sense of social responsibility as a good corporate citizen and the environmental awareness of its employees.
